Le Village au Vieux Pont

The painting I am least willing to part with. A village of no name, a bridge of dry stone, a field gone gold — and, at the front, the poppies that arrive uninvited in every canvas of mine, like guests who know they are loved.

This is Provence not as it is, but as I remember it — heightened, blessed, a little in love with itself.
